I oppose this request. There are alternatives that allow shade without adding to the FAR of the property, such as umbrellas and fabric shade sails. These would allow shade without being a permanent and sold roof structure such as the Applicant has built. The pergola was built without obtaining a permit, and that action should not be rewarded by providing a variance at this time. The claimed hardship Applicant submits (the sun is strong in Arizona) is not of a suitable nature for a variance.

At the open house, the realtor told me Darcam's contractors added the back patio and side porch covers (after the co was granted.) Side porch cover (not a carport) shouldn't have been rebuilt but it is unfortunate that the owner by then was aware of the FAR coverage yet proceeded to build the ramada without a permit. Letter of support by Brian Anderson,CEO of Destination M should be discounted as the house is a timeshare property and the city will not enforce code and ordinance violation.
